Last night shortly after it was revealed that Mitt Romney approached Fox News’ Bret Baier after his “tough”interview to complain that the questions Baier asked were uncalled for, a lot of the people I follow on twitter started mocking Mitt Romney on twitter. I decided to create #QuestionsMittLikes on twitter to poke fun at the Romney’s outrage over a mostly friendly fox interview with a few tough questions. It’s the first time I’ve created a hashtag that’s taken off and so this afternoon I pulled the 1,400+ uses of the hashtag in one place for everyone to see. I apologize that there are no links.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Pelosi released the following statement today to mark the Persian New Year, which falls on Sunday, March 20th:
“Nowruz – literally meaning ‘new day’ – is a celebration of the first day of spring, a marker of new beginnings and a new year for the millions who trace their history and heritage to Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan and elsewhere. This holiday is an occasion to celebrate with family and friends; a symbol of renewal and life, hope and a fresh start.
“In observing this day, we look forward to a future where the peoples of the United States and Iran can celebrate all we share; where we can exchange ideas and enrich each other’s cultures. We strive for a day when Iranians enjoy the rights and freedoms Americans cherish – the right to speak freely and assemble; the freedom to participate in their government and practice their faith without discrimination.

The Most Ridiculous Item From Playbook Today

GOP MINDMELD: As Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), incoming chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, prepares for three Sunday shows and with Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), who’ll be the ranking member, countering on one: Cummings, who is casting himself as the loyal opposition to Darrell Issa, runs the risk of prematurely marginalizing himself. If he keeps up a tactic of strong rhetorical challenges before Issa has even done anything, he’ll be reduced to an obstructionist opposed to all oversight. Cummings could put himself in a box that would enable Issa to ignore him and dismiss future challenges as typical partisan gamesmanship.
Change the names and parties in that sentence and pretend that it was written about the GOP obstructionism in the last two years. Now imagine that reporters actually cared half as much about GOP obstruction as they do about Cummings who’s pointing out that much of Issa’s agenda is partisan and has nothing to do with oversight.
It’s rich that Issa is dismissing anyone else as a typical partisan since that partisanship is all Issa is about, he’s the former car thief who bankrolled the recall of a Democratic governor in California in 2003 and has telegraphed to the same press that he’s about to launch a series of oversight hearings that are about weakening his political opponents, rather than about oversight.. Color me skeptical that anyone attached to Issa can sell this spin but you never know with the political press.
John Kyl Has Consequences
Rachel Maddow did a long segment last night on the NNSA’s efforts to secure loose nuclear material from Kazakhstan. The entire eight minutes is riveting television is tied directly the Republican efforts to stop the START treaty.
It’s really amazing if you think about it. Nuclear Non-Proliferation is a non-partisan agreement between both parties, except for a small group of extremists on the right. In fact much of the work that was done in Kazakhstan was done under George W. Bush’s administration by scientists and government employees to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
Right-wing Republicans have consequences and in this case the consequences are really extreme. Is there a name for loose nuclear material that falls into the hands of terrorists? Should we call the nukes John Kyle nukes, or the nuclear material has become John Kyl’d?
